Turn on two-step verification in your Microsoft account’s security settings.

In the same place, create an app password.

Microsoft 365 work and school accounts

Microsoft turned off password sign-in for IMAP on Exchange Online, so these mailboxes need OAuth (“Sign in with Microsoft”). That is next on our list. Until then, Microsoft’s own migration tools in the Exchange admin center can import from IMAP.
